The Effect of formal and informal productive activity of the elderly on their successful aging£ºMediated effect of life satisfaction

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of productive activities of the elderlyon their successful aging and to test if life satisfaction mediates relation between the dependentvariable and the independent variable above, based on activity theory. The result shows thatformal and informal productive activities of the elderly have a positive correlation with theirsuccessful aging, in particular, informal activities have stronger influence on it compared toformal activities. With this result, we can see that informal activities have more important rolesin deciding the quality of life of the elderly, rather than formal activities. Also, life satisfactionwas shown as a partial mediation in the path analysis of the correlation between productiveactivities and successful aging. As as result of this study, the assessment of the value ofproductive activities of the elderly should be increased with the need of productive activities insenescence.
